Aranyak May Day

Aranyak Natyadal believes in the mantra that drama is not just entertainment, but a sharp tool of class struggle. That is, it practices drama believing in socialism, the ideology of the liberation of the working class. That is why it cherishes the ideology of the working class in its thoughts and dreams. May 1st is celebrated all over the world It is recognized as a special day for the working class. That is why the Aranyak Theatre Group decided to celebrate May 1st every year. They have been celebrating May Day regularly since 1983. The first May Day celebration is a significant event in the history of Aranyak and the cultural practice of Bangladesh. In 1983, May 1st was the day of martial law. Aranyak decided to celebrate May Day at the central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka. But the then military junta did not allow the celebration of May Day at the Shaheed Minar - rather, it prevented it.The Aranyak Theatre Group then decided to celebrate May Day at the Bangla Academy premises near Shaheed Minar. With little publicity, the first May Day was celebrated at the Bangla Academy in the presence of theatre workers, cultural workers and political activists. From the following year until now, i.e. until 2025, Aranyak has been celebrating May Day regularly at the Central Shaheed Minar every year. Aranyak Theatre Group created history by celebrating May Day in the history of Bangladesh. Aranyak is the first theatre or cultural group to take this initiative. Every year, Aranyak produces a new street play on the occasion of May Day. Most or all of the street plays that Aranyak has been regularly performing are produced on the occasion of May 1st. Apart from the production of new street plays, poetry readings, recitations, and national songs take place in this program. Along with this, a prominent person from the country, a politician, intellectual, writer, or artist who believes in communism, attends as a special guest and delivers a speech. However, Aranyak's new street play on May 1st is a major attraction for all classes of audience. Aranyak's May Day celebration has now attained the status of a national event.
